The FMS is the independent foreign foundation affiliated to the Labour Party. We advocate for emerging democracies and for (social) democrats in countries where freedom is under pressure. The FMS supports political party building, through training, at the request of foreign partners. We strive for a world where the democratic rights of all people are guaranteed. We fan the flames of change by giving activists practical tools they can use directly in their struggles. We support changemakers around the world and give them a platform. We also explicitly take our own responsibility for fair politics in the Netherlands, the European Union, Africa and the Middle East. We involve as many different people as possible by sharing knowledge and stimulating dialogue.
The FMS has a small staff and an extensive network of trainers working from Eastern Europe to North Africa. In addition, the FMS provides the secretariat of the European Forum for Democracy and Solidarity, a platform for cooperation between social democratic parties and foundations inside and outside the European Union. The European Forum aims to strengthen social democracy and mutual solidarity in Europe. On the website www.europeanforum.net tracks key political developments from the target regions.
