FMS seeks 2 interns for Africa Day 2022

On 9 April 2022, the Max van der Stoel Foundation (FMS) is organising a live Africa Day at the KIT in Amsterdam! After a two-year absence, the Africa Day is back as the biggest event on Africa and international cooperation in the Netherlands. The FMS is looking for two interns for the organisation of this day. Together with the project coordinator and an (external) event manager, you will work on the content, organisation and communication of this major event.

What does this position entail?

You will assist in the organisation of the Africa Day. This means that you will help with the content preparation and organisation of various workshops and debates and you will liaise with the 30+ organisations participating in the Africa Day with a workshop or information stand. You will also be in close contact with the speakers and visitors, think about the cultural programme and contribute to the communication and promotion of the day. After the Africa Day, you will also have the opportunity to organise a (smaller) public meeting for the FMS, where you will independently put into practice the knowledge you have gained in the previous months.

The period runs from early January 2022 to June 2022. Exact start and end dates will be determined in consultation. You will work four days a week (28 hours) at our office in The Hague.

The FMS is looking for someone who:

  • demonstrable knowledge and/or affinity with regard to international cooperation, with knowledge of Africa being an advantage;
  • Can work independently and well organised in a lively working environment;
  • has an interest in Dutch politics and policy on international cooperation;
  • is creative and stress-resistant;
  • Help make Africa Day 2022 a success!

We are preferably looking for one organisational talent and one creative talent. Do you have one of these qualities? Then please let us know (or show us) in your CV and/or cover letter!

What do we offer?

A nice collegial working atmosphere, good supervision and the freedom to put your own ideas for workshops, debates and the culture programme into practice. You will gain experience within a political NGO, get to know development organisations and get to know Dutch and European politics better. The internship allowance is €450 per month, provided you are enrolled at a Dutch higher education institution. Otherwise, a (lower) volunteer allowance applies.

Apply?

Then email your cover letter with CV no later than Wednesday 3 November To Rosa van Driel: rvdriel@foundationmaxvanderstoel.nl. Interviews will preferably take place during the week of 8 November.
