As the FMS we support people in their quest and journey towards and with social democracy. Throughout multiple events we have been able to connect with our partners and participants in a wonderfully wide range. This past weekend, the FMS organised five events focussed on supporting social democratic movements with our partner parties.

One of the highlights was the MENA Academy 2024, which took place in Rabat, Morocco. The FMS, in collaboration with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and Labour, welcomed delegations from Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, and Iraqi-Kurdistan. The Academy brought together leadership representatives and youth members from political parties from across the MENA region to engage in open conversations and share experiences on youth member participation. The event kicked off with a leadership roundtable discussion, where representatives from social democratic parties shared their insights on the importance of youth members and their integration into the party. This session flowed into the following two days of interactive training. Multiple youth members from the MENA parties followed practical and theoretical workshops from former MP, DutchCulture CEO and FMS trainer Kirsten van den Hul and Labour's policy development officer and trainer Rebecca Morrish. Together with some informative sessions led by former Secretary General of Labour, David Evans. During, in between and after the sessions the youth members connected over shared dilemmas in the region but also saw the specific challenges each one was facing. The sessions offered practical tools and knowledge to the youth delegates, empowering them to take these lessons back to their communities. By connecting young socialists from the Middle East and North Africa, the academy fostered an environment of learning, solidarity, and empowerment.

At the same time, the FMS was present in Tallinn, Estonia where we co-organised a European Training of Trainers. A group from mostly the Baltic States and Finland came together to enhance their training skills and to make sure we, as an organisation and so by extension our trainers, stay true to our mission of promoting social democracy through equal partnership and empowered participation! The gathering focused on enhancing the skills of our dedicated group of trainers, to ensure high-quality sessions for our future initiatives.

Additionally, local training sessions were held throughout the weekend in Armenia, Serbia, and Bosnia, where our trainers delivered workshops focussed on social democracy. In Armenia, the training focused on enhancing labour rights and co-operating with trade unions. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, a seminar was organised to address LGBTI+-inclusion with political parties.
