Last week, the Max van der Stoel Foundation attended the ninth meeting of Friends of the Western Balkans (FoWB) in Podgorica, Montenegro. The meeting took place in the run-up to the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat and brought together politicians, parliamentarians and experts from across Europe.
The conference focused on the future of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans. Discussions centred on regional cooperation and the challenges of a just green transition in the region.
For FMS, the meeting was also a valuable opportunity to engage in dialogue with progressive partners from the region and the rest of Europe about the future of the Western Balkans. A credible EU perspective requires not only political will, but also strong institutions, a well-functioning rule of law and democratic political parties.
The conference was organised by FEPS, in collaboration with the Max van der Stoel Foundation, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, the Olof Palme International Center, the Fondation Jean-Jaurès and the S&D Group in the European Parliament, as part of the FEPS Enlargement Programme.
