All Eyes On Sudan
A humanitarian disaster of unprecedented proportions is currently unfolding in Sudan. Two warlords are waging a bloody battle in which sexual violence, mutilation and ethnic cleansing are the order of the day. Some 25 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid, 9 million of whom have now fled the violence and left everything behind. Although the conflict has flared up considerably in the past year, some parts of Sudan have been in crisis for decades.
On 26 June, we will talk about what is currently happening in the country and the historical context that is crucial to understanding why it is in such a deep crisis. We will also discuss how foreign influences have been contributing to Sudan’s destabilisation for decades and whether they could possibly bring about positive change.
Guests include Sudanese activist Abdulaal Hussein, Thirsa de Vries of PAX and Leon Willems of Free Press Unlimited.
After the panel discussion, there will be informal drinks in the garden. In the process, delicious Sudanese food and music can be enjoyed. Be welcome!
