The Africa Day, organised by FMS and European think tank FEPS, has been the event that brings Africa to the Netherlands for over 25 years. For over 25 years, the Africa Day has been the event that brings Africa to the Netherlands. With some 1,000 visitors, speakers, volunteers and 40 partner organisations, it is the largest public event on Africa and international cooperation in the Netherlands. The day consists of workshops, lectures, talks, films, and music. With the event, we want to give African voices a stage and bring citizens, politicians and NGOs into conversation about a new cooperation between Africa and Europe based on equality.

Africa Day 2023
The 2023 theme was Climate Justice. People all over the world are grappling with the impacts of climate change, probably the biggest challenge we face today. But the burden of impacts is unfairly distributed. On no continent is the challenge greater than in Africa. Droughts and floods are on the rise, resulting in poor harvests and displaced communities. All the while, African countries bear the least responsibility for climate change. Moreover, the climate crisis is hitting hardest those in Africa who are already most vulnerable - such as people in poverty, women, youth, indigenous peoples and LGBTQIA+ people.
A broad 'climate justice' movement in Africa is demanding action for just climate policies. How can we in Europe and the Netherlands take responsibility and listen to this call? How do we make fairer policies that match what they need? And while action is needed, people in Africa are already finding creative ways to protect themselves, their communities and the environment. What can we in Europe and the Netherlands learn from them?
