'Africa Day and Think Tank' intern

Intern for Africa Day and the Youth Think Tank  

 

28–35 hours per week (to be agreed) for the period from July to December 2026

During this placement, you will be working on our programme focused on international cooperation with Africa, with a particular focus on organising the annual Africa Day. You will also contribute to a youth think tank on EU-Africa relations and take part in knowledge-sharing with partners.  

On 21 November 2026, the 31st edition of Africa Day will take place, the largest event in the Netherlands focusing on Africa and international cooperation, attracting around a thousand visitors. This is always organised by the Max van der Stoel Foundation and the programme consists of workshops, lectures, films, music and debates. For our organisation, this is a highlight of the year! 

In 2026, Africa Day will be organised by the Max van der Stoel Foundation for the last time. Next year, PRO’s new international foundation will take over!

 

What does this position entail? 

As an intern, you will mainly be involved in organising Africa Day 2026 and the EU–Africa Youth Think Tank, working alongside the project manager in charge. Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Organising sessions of the EU–Africa Youth Think Tank (logistics & communication); 
  • Attend relevant meetings and webinars organised by our partners; 
  • Maintaining contact with the organisations and speakers involved in Africa Day (such as politicians, activists and experts); 
  • Communication and promotion of Africa Day via online channels and social media; 
  • Supporting the content and organisational preparation of various workshops and debates at Africa Day. 

 

You will work four or five days a week (28–35 hours) by mutual agreement. This will mainly be based at our office in Utrecht. Working from home is, of course, also an option. The assignment runs from July 2026 to December 2026. The exact start and end dates will be determined in consultation. 

 

What do we like to see in you? 

  • You enjoy organising activities, and also like to think about content; 
  • You have an affinity with international issues and development cooperation (knowledge of Africa is a plus); 
  • You understand Dutch politics in relation to these issues, or would like to learn more about them; 
  • The working language is Dutch, but you also have a good command of English; 
  • You communicate clearly and professionally (experience with social media is an advantage) 
  • You are independent and enterprising, but also enjoy working in a team. 
 
 

What do we offer? 

  • An internship from July to December, four or five days a week (28–35 hours). 
  • Start and end time and working hours of the internship in consultation with the applicant. 
  • The internship allowance, based on a 28-hour working week, is €620 per month. 
  • Learning internship in a small and young team, with good supervision and the freedom to put your own ideas for workshops, debates and the culture programme into practice.  
  • Good, intensive internship supervision where we sit down together regularly to discuss your goals. 
  • You do ervaring up within a political foundation, gets to know the main Dutch development organisations and gets to know Dutch and European politics better.
