Looking at migration differently: African perspectives

Our session "Looking at migration differently: African perspectives" was well attended. A lively discussion ensued between the panel, consisting of Anne van der Meer (FMS), Kirsten van den Hul (MP) and Ugbaad Hassen Kilincci (Councillor Emmen), and the audience. It was clear that migration is about more than mobility.

African perspectives are underexposed in the European debate around migration. However, these perspectives are very important: "Through this research, I feel heard.

Investment in development prospects is needed: "Together, with each other, and for a better future. We need to empower people, share knowledge and invest in what is needed." Young people have and keep hope, in fact, they are very concerned with their future and are positive about it!

"The diaspora paragraph in the policy is not just a box to tick. It involves substantial cooperation between the Netherlands and the diaspora network." 

"Global inequality, that's where the conversation should start".

SDGs in the Labour Party election manifesto!

But there is more happening at the congress. We were present throughout the day with a stand, where we talked and discussed our work with lots of people.

The congress also voted to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals, the SDGs, as a guideline for the next election manifesto. We are curious!
