Afghanistan Lecture: Dr Massouda Jalal

The Max van der Stoel Foundation, together with the Amsterdam Labour Party, is organising an evening with a lecture by Dr Massouda Jalal, former Minister of Women's Affairs of Afghanistan. She has been staying in the Netherlands since the Taliban took over.

Themes we will discuss are international solidarity and feminism in international relations.

We would like to inform and engage social democrats about the situation in Afghanistan and how these developments affect the rest of the world. An important question is what role the international community should play in supporting the Afghan people in their struggle for democracy and freedom. International solidarity is the central concept of social democrats in international relations, but what practical form should this solidarity take? Is it precisely social democrats who should be the first to pick up that gauntlet?
