Last week, the Max van der Stoel Foundation attended the ninth meeting of Friends of the Western Balkans (FoWB) in Podgorica, Montenegro. The meeting took place in the run-up to the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat and brought together politicians, parliamentarians and experts from across Europe.<\/p>\n
The conference focused on the future of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans. Discussions centred on regional cooperation and the challenges of a just green transition in the region.<\/p>\n
For FMS, the meeting was also a valuable opportunity to engage in dialogue with progressive partners from the region and the rest of Europe about the future of the Western Balkans. A credible EU perspective requires not only political will, but also strong institutions, a well-functioning rule of law and democratic political parties.<\/p>\n
The conference was organised by FEPS, in collaboration with the Max van der Stoel Foundation, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, the Olof Palme International Center, the Fondation Jean-Jaur\u00e8s and the S&D Group in the European Parliament, as part of the FEPS Enlargement Programme.<\/p>\n
