Hello all, I am Minke Muthert (17 years old) and I have been doing an internship at FMS for a week. I am in my 5e<\/sup> year of VWO in Groningen and, when I get my diploma, I want to study International Development Studies in Wageningen. From my school, I was looking for a future-oriented traineeship that connected to this field of study. I did some searching and emailing to different development organisations and ended up at FMS. I found the topics I came across on the FMS site very interesting, about all kinds of issues in the world that I regularly deal with.<\/p>\n

I was therefore delighted to join the FMS at its office in The Hague for a week. From Monday 14 to Friday 18 May, I went along with several staff members and was able to see what the FMS staff is doing on a daily basis. For example, I immersed myself in all kinds of world news and then wrote about it in the Newsflash and on the European Forum website. I also went along to Amsterdam on Thursday for a ShelterCity lunch at Pakhuis de Zwijger with human rights lawyer Justus Iljeoma from Nigeria, who is fighting police violence in his country. I found his stories very impressive to hear.<\/p>\n

On Friday 18 May, my last day at FMS, we left for Amsterdam again for a meeting with Tax Justice Netherlands (a network of eight organisations, including FMS, committed to fair and transparent tax policy) to discuss a planned campaign against the abolition of dividend tax in the Netherlands. Tax Justice Netherlands is making a fist against it, partly because the abolition will have a negative impact on developing countries. It was a very fascinating afternoon to attend!<\/p>\n

I had an incredibly fun and educational week at FMS and I was well involved in the work. The team is very nice and interested so it was a pleasure to spend a week here. I also gained a lot of tips for my future studies, which is definitely a plus.<\/p>\n
