Will you be one of our new Africa Day interns?

Next year, the Max van der Stoel Foundation (FMS) will again organise the Africa Day (www.afrikadag.nl), a national meeting on Africa and international cooperation. With more than 1,000 visitors, 200 speakers and some 100 volunteers, the Africa Day is the biggest event on Africa and international cooperation in the Netherlands.

The FMS is looking for two interns to organise the Africa Day, which will take place on Saturday 13 April 2019. Together with the project officer in charge, you will collaborate on the substantive and organisational work for the Africa Day.

What does this position entail?

You will assist in the organisation of the Africa Day 2019. You will help with the content preparation and organisation of various workshops and debates, you will liaise with collaborating organisations and speakers, assist in the design, contribute to the website and promotion of the Africa Day and collaborate on the design of the cultural programme. After the Africa Day, you will also organise a smaller public meeting for the FMS.

The period is from (preferably beginning) January 2019 to June 2019. Exact start and end date will be determined in consultation. You will work four days a week (28 hours) at our office in The Hague.

The FMS is looking for someone who:

  • has demonstrable knowledge and/or affinity with regard to international cooperation, with knowledge of Africa being an advantage
  • can work independently in a busy environment
  • has an interest in Dutch politics and policy regarding international cooperation
  • is creative and stress-resistant
  • Help make Africa Day 2019 a success!

What do we offer?

A nice collegial working atmosphere, good supervision and the freedom to put your own ideas for workshops, debates and the culture programme into practice. You will gain experience within a political NGO, get to know development organisations and get to know Dutch and European politics better. The internship allowance is €375 per month, provided you are enrolled at a Dutch higher education institution. Otherwise, a (lower) volunteer allowance applies.
